Hospice is not a place but rather a philosophy. People with life-limiting illnesses enter hospice to seek palliative care, not a cure, during their final months or weeks. For over forty years, Hospice of Central PA has helped bring comfort to families in Harrisburg and surrounding areas.
Its mission is “to provide the highest quality of emotional, physical and spiritual support with compassion and respect.” The physicians, nurses, social workers and more who work for HCP are well-positioned to give the same high quality of care for years to come.
I have had the privilege to serve on HCP’s marketing committee for several years and recently joined the HCP Golf and Tennis Classic committee. I have seen firsthand the dedication that the leadership and staff have toward serving patients and their families.
Every meeting begins with a “mission moment” that shares an emotional story from a patient’s family member about the care their loved one received from Hospice of Central PA’s Journey Program. The program offers bereavement services to family members after a patient passes away.
You may have heard about hospice services before, but there are several ways Hospice of Central PA differentiates itself from other hospice organizations. As an independent nonprofit, it is positioned to provide care for all patients regardless of their personal or financial situations. HCP owns and operates Carolyn’s House, the only hospice residence in the capital region. Children can participate in Camp Dragonfly, a free weekend camp dedicated to helping kids ages 6-15 who are dealing with the loss of loved ones. Hospice of Central PA also is dedicated to serving the needs of veterans and their families.
The public can join HCP for one of its community education events, the annual Golf and Tennis Classic fundraiser, a Butterfly Release or a Tree of Light event. Whether your children attend Camp Dragonfly or HCP administers compassionate end-of-life care to someone you love, you will see that Hospice of Central PA is an incredible organization.
